Peppermint & polka dots: Continuing on with my focus on ‘frugal fashion’, I bought this little t-shirt (emphasis on little!) on sale at Best & Less for just $3 (you’ve gotta love a bargain.
I’d seen some great ideas on Pinterest for refashions & got all inspired. Plus this polka dot chiffon had been in my fabric stash for awhile just waiting for the right project (it hardly used any so I have heaps for a future project)
So I started with the t-shirt, comparing it with a shirt that I liked the fit of, I got a rough idea of how much I needed to add in. I cut off the shoulder seam & continued down the sleeve. Then I added in a strip of the chiffon, finished the edges & topstitched it in place. I then cut the back open & added in a larger panel of chiffon. Once the panel was in place, I stitched in some pleats to encourage a draped feel. I was going to leave it there-but it didn’t feel finished yet. So I added a collar, using some black stretch recycled from an old dress to back it. After fiddling with the collar to figure out the best way to attach it, I folded over the binding & stitched it in place.
Can’t wait to wear this, I think it’s going to be a great addition to the work wardrobe
